Hello Everyone. There hasn’t been much to report this week about Fr. Vince.  He had a quiet Easter with his family and is continuing to feel better every day. He is learning to pace himself and learn his limits. The last couple of days, he has been able to drive himself over to his farm from his sister’s home (less than 5 miles). That and the nice weather is creating a little Spring Fever (probably for all of us). I believe the worst is behind Fr. Vince now and that he will be back to a full life soon. The doctors have not given him a day to return to work – they want him to progress at his rate not theirs. He’ll know when he’s ready and then look out! So remember to thank the One who through his grace has made all this possible for Fr. Vince; thank Him for granting your petitions and ask Him to continue blessing all of us.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Happy Easter from Fr. Vince. Since I last wrote, things have been progressing quite well. Father has returned to his sister’s home in Varysburg which is the next best thing to the farm! All his doctors are pleased with his progress. I finally got to see him yesterday and I think he looks pretty darn good – he’s lost some weight but he’s so tall, it looks good on him. His voice is still a little raspy (from the surgery & tubes), but strong.  His sense of humor is intact and don’t forget, laughter is the second best medicine; your Prayers are the best medicine. He is eating solid foods again but little bits several times a day. He tires easily and takes cat naps during the day but truly he is on the road to recovery. He is enjoying all the cards and well wishes you have sent him. He asked me to tell you he sends each of you his Blessing and wishes you a Glorious, Happy Easter.  Praise God!

Hi Everyone,

Fr. Vince had his angioplasty yesterday (April 2nd) to have the stint placed in his artery. There is no damage to his heart and the procedure went smoothly. Today he was discharged from Buffalo General and returned to his sister, Lucille’s, home to continue his recuperation. He’s so glad to be going “home”; he’s tired of hospitals and at Lucille’s he’ll be able to nap without someone coming in to take his vital signs just as he falls asleep. We’ve all been there – right? I will let you know on Monday how the weekend went.  The feeding tube has been removed and soft food has never tasted better. Fr. Vince wants you to know how much he cares for each one of you and how pleased he is when he reads all your cards and letters. Your prayers are still the best medicine he can receive, so keep them coming. He says he can feel them working – powerful stuff, those prayers.

Hello Dear Friends,
Fr. Vince had a little bump in his road to recovery this week but please be reassured that all is OK now. Late Wednesday evening, Fr, Vince suffered a mild heart attack. He hadn’t been feeling well and had returned to the hospital where the heart attack occurred. He is currently in Buffalo General Hospital in the CCU.  He underwent an angiogram and one of his arteries is partially blocked; the other arteries are fine. There appears to be no permanent damage to his heart and later next week they will insert a stent. Fr. Vince is continuing to recover well from his surgery and even with this little bump in his road he is well on his way to a return to good health. As a matter of fact after they put the stent in, he will probably feel much better. Please continue to pray for him and we will continue to keep you informed of what is happening.

We waited a few days to tell you about this because we wanted to have all the facts before we told you and caused everyone to be more upset than necessary. Please be thankful for what didn’t happen and realize that if this was going to happen, it happened under the best possible circumstances. Thank you for all your continued prayers and good wishes – Fr. Vince loves to read your cards and notes to him.

Hi Everyone,

I just talked to Fr. Vince (Friday morning). He sounds stronger and more like himself every day. He says he’s glad to be at his sister Lucille’s house instead of the hospital – better accommodations. His doctors are very encouraged with his progress. He is now able to swallow soft foods instead of via the feeding tube. So scrambled eggs, mushy cereal and some other soft goodies have been added to the Jello, juice and tea and is he ever happy about that. I believe that Fr. Vince is well on his road to recovery. All your prayers and good wishes are still needed. Fr. Vince tells me he will never be able to thank all of you enough for all your love and caring. He sends his blessing to each of you and wishes you a Happy Spring! Can you believe it snowed for the first day of Spring? Have a wonderful weekend.
Christ’s peace and love to you.

Hi Everyone,

There is very good news & not so good news today.  Fr. Vince is being discharged from the hospital today and he will go to stay with his sister Lucille in Varysburg.  It seems to me that this is a special blessing today since this is the 47th Anniversary of his ordination.  He really started feeling like his normal self last Thursday and each day has been better than the day before. His spirits remain high and his healing is right on schedule. So what’s the not so good news? The pathology of the tumor and tissue that was removed during surgery has been found to have a few bad cells and as you know the doctors originally believed there were no more bad cells. What does this mean? The doctors  are still assessing things and have not told Fr. Vince yet what this means in terms of treatment – but it is a possibility that there will be some more Chemotherapy – remember the word possibility and remember how well he responded to his treatments before the surgery. There is no reason for doom and gloom but there is every reason to keep on praying and asking God to bring Fr. Vince through this safely.  Stay focused on the positive things that are happening – that is what Fr. Vince is doing and it is what he asks of us.  I will continue to keep you all informed of what is happening as I learn about it.  Remember to keep praying and if there is anything you are all good at – it’s praying.  If you’re Irish (and aren’t we all today?) HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY from Fr. Vince.

Hi,
I’m a day late, sorry. Fr. Vince is having his best day today since his surgery. He had a CAT scan on Tuesday and Wednesday was spent getting over it. Too much poking and prodding. No results yet but it was routine to check on the healing process and he’ll be having the scans on a regular basis. They are also starting to disconnect him from the medical equipment being used to monitor him. His sister tells me that today he feels more like his old self. The doctors  say he is doing better at this point than most people who have this surgery. Fr. Vince still isn’t up to visitors or phone calls. Thanks for respecting his wishes about that. Thanks for all the cards you have been sending -WOW- I have a whole box to send tomorrow.  He’ll have a great weekend reading them all. I’ll send another e-mail in a few days. God’s blessing to each one of you.

Monday, March 9

Hello Everybody,

It has been 1 week today since Fr. Vince’s surgery and I continue to report only good news. We are told that compared to other people who have had this same surgery, Fr. Vince is a wonder. He is up and walking several times a day. This tires him out so he takes cat naps during the day and at night, well, we all know one isn’t allowed to sleep all night when in the hospital. Yesterday he finally got to have Ensure via his feeding tube (it probably was as good as a steak under normal circumstances). At this point he receives nothing through his mouth but in a few days he will graduate to liquids.  He is still weak; his voice is hoarse and he truly isn’t up to visitors or phone calls. But take heart, he is recovering nicely and seems to be ahead of schedule. Keep the prayers coming, they continue to make all the difference for him. I’ll post another message on Wednesday.  Remember cards may be sent here to Wellsville and we will get your cards to him. You are also welcome to call us if you want to. The office is open from 8am-4pm.

God Bless You,

Sue

Friday, March 6

Hi Everyone,

More good news. Fr. Vince has left the ICU for the greener pasture of his own room. He has progressed from sitting up in bed to taking short walks in the hall. That tires him out and he takes another little nap, but each day he is a little stronger.  He is already looking forward to the day they give him something to eat through his mouth and not a feeding tube. That probably won’t happen until sometime next week and then it will only be liquids.  He still isn’t up to having visitors or phone calls (it is too difficult for him to get to the phone) but he wants each one of you to know how blessed he is to call you friend. Your prayers, cards, encouragement and kindnesses are gratefully received and he thanks you from the bottom of his heart. We will see how he fares over the weekend and I’ll post another message on Monday afternoon. And you can always call here (585-593-4834) Monday-Friday during business hours for an update.  Praise the Lord and God Bless.

Enjoy the weekend – I think spring is on the way!

Wednesday, March 4

Hi Everyone,

The news about Fr. Vince continues to be very good – what a surprise, huh? His first and second nights in ICU were uneventful. Yesterday morning he was sitting up and had begun some Occupational Therapy with a little more of the same today. He slept a lot yesterday but that was to be expected, after all he had a pretty big day on Monday. Sometime today or as soon as a room becomes available, Fr. Vince will be moved to a regular room. He does have some pain but it is managed with some very good drugs and some pain is to be expected. Each day should see more improvement. Unless something very important happens today or tomorrow, I will post another message of Friday.  Thanks for all your support and well wishes. He will get a copy of all your messages as soon as he is able to concentrate better and read them.
